from Whiteboard to Reality
It was late New Year’s Eve in East Africa, 2022. Streets and homes were filled with celebrations anticipating the advent of the new year. But in the home of Marcus and Maria, a different gathering was happening. As leaders of a house of prayer, Marcus and Maria had gathered their leadership team together in their home to pray over the upcoming season. Marcus had already been praying fervently for months. He and Maria had been asking the Lord for a new building where they could continue their ministry, as their current situation was no longer suitable to their community’s growing needs.
While the team gathered, Marcus felt it was time to show them what the Lord had put on his heart during times of prayer. He took out a whiteboard and began to draw it out in black and white. A house of prayer took shape on the board. He called it the “House of Prayer 2.0.”
“I told them that I think the Lord is giving us a new blueprint for a building. It’s not just a building, it is building a spiritual family,” said Marcus. After seeing it on the white board, the leadership team felt strongly that the Lord was planning to give them a house just like it. The building would have a prayer room, classroom space for discipling believers and preparing long-term workers, and guest rooms. The guest rooms would accommodate those coming to labor as missionaries in the nation, and new local believers who are at-risk of persecution.
“The leaders felt so convicted by the Holy Spirit that this was going to be a thing,” said Marcus. “So they signed up their names under the drawing on the white board. I have a picture of that, actually. The whiteboard was going to get erased. So we [also] wrote it in a notebook. We wrote down: ‘House of Prayer 2.0, the blueprint that the Lord is giving us.’ They signed their names. They said, ‘we’re committed. We're committing the next years of our lives to building this.’” But then, time passed, and everyone forgot about the blueprint and the notebook. The vision remained tucked away in black-and-white, like a relic from the past. Marcus and Maria continued to search for a place but weren’t able to successfully find it. The search came up unfruitful time and time again.
Four years after the blueprint was given, Marcus and Maria finally signed the lease on a building that would fit their ministry’s needs. “We gathered our team for the first night to pray and consecrate this new space,” said Marcus. “We were in the prayer room, and the Lord just reminded me to pull out a picture of that drawing on that paper, which I did for the first time in so many years. I hadn't even been thinking about it. It just took me a moment to realize we are living in the exact fulfillment of what the Lord spoke to us for years. We have a facility that looks exactly like the description of what the Lord gave us.”
With a beautiful prayer room, a classroom space, and guest rooms, the building was no longer a black-and-white drawing on a white board, but a reality in living color. Like a photo that had come to life, the House of Prayer 2.0 was no longer just a forgotten vision. It was a promise fulfilled.
