Tuning Lily’s Heartstrings
Lily’s heart felt like a damaged guitar. Collecting dust and out of tune, it was broken from the past. Native to a busy city in East Africa, she had devoted many years of her life to Christian ministry as a prominent worship leader. However, the ministry she served with had left her traumatized. In the past two and a half years since she had left the ministry, Lily hadn’t sought out any church community but avoided it altogether.
This began to change when she got connected to the East Africa Missions Base and found their local training program. With nothing more to lose, Lily decided to apply. However, due to various circumstances, she was unable to attend. Still, again, she felt drawn to the community. She couldn’t shake it. Did she dare step back into a community of believers? What would become of her damaged heart?
In an act of faith, Lily said “yes.” She tentatively began to join the community gatherings at the East Africa Missions Base. As she did, little by little, she felt her heart coming to life. It was as if it was being dusted off and tuned to make a beautiful melody again as she experienced the love of the community around her. Surprised by what was happening, Lily paid attention. She could feel her mind and emotions stabilizing. “I started hearing His voice speaking to me once again for the first time in two and a half years,” said Lily. The strings of her heart were going from broken to repaired, her mind was being transformed.
In early 2026, Lily went on to join the two-month local training school at the East Africa Missions Base and also took a course on Emotionally Healthy Spirituality. Following the courses, Lily shared with her leaders that her life had been changed in a way that it hadn’t been in many years. She was experiencing the most transformation of her life. She could look to her left and right and see that she was in community with like-minded and like-hearted believers. She could place her hand upon her heart and feel that it was repaired. The strings of her heart were in tune. She was ready for a new song.
