Harvest in the Himalaya
Check out these three testimonies of salvation from the Himalaya. Hearts are hungry to know the Living God in the highest place on earth.
We just love Jesus!
“It was just so awesome,” said Anna. “We shared our testimonies with one another - just back and forth to one another- loudly, so he could hear it. Then he came over to our table and asked if we were philosophers. Rayne and I said, ‘no… we just love Jesus!’”
Anna and Rayne were in the Himalayas for ten days as part of a MAPS Global short-term trip called 50 Hours. On this particular day, they had stepped out of the bustle of colorful streets full of honking horns and thick exhaust, to seek a bite to eat within a Chinese restaurant. As Anna and Rayne sat down with their friend Kate, they noticed a man behind them who appeared to be listening to their conversation. “Rayne said we should just preach the Gospel to one another,” said Anna. As the man listened, his heart was stirred to know the Jesus they spoke of. He was like a stalk of wheat, golden and ripe for harvest. After he approached their table and asked questions, Kate introduced him to Jesus. In response to his hunger to know Him, she led him through a prayer of salvation.
“He said, ‘April 21st, 2026 - this is the day that I am a new creation. I will never be the same,” said Anna. In Matthew 9, Jesus instructed his disciples to pray to the Lord of the harvest to send laborers into the harvest field because the harvest was plentiful, but the workers were few. This was the beginning of the harvest in the Himalaya during this 50 Hours trip!
What Must I Do?
Will, a team member on the trip, was spending time with the Lord early one morning, preparing his heart for the day. As he read out of Acts 2, he was drawn to the response of the people to the Gospel. “I asked the Lord, would you do this today? As we go out, would people’s response be ‘what shall we do?,” said Will. Later that afternoon, as his team went out to share the Gospel in the city and do some shopping, he stepped into a small shop to buy a jacket. Will began to talk with the Hindu owner of the shop.
“I asked him if I could pray for him, and he said ‘yes,’ sharing that his business had not been doing well lately. I began to pray and ask the Lord to send people his way. I suddenly felt tingles from the top of my head to the bottom of my feet. After praying, I shared the Gospel with him. When I paused and asked what he thought, his response was, ‘What must I do? Do I go to church? Where do I go?’” Will led him in a prayer of salvation and connected him to long-term missionaries in the region, amazed at the working of the Holy Spirit to draw all men unto Himself. The Lord was continuing to reap a harvest in the Himalaya.
Why Not?
Mel, another team member on the trip, had a similar experience at a coffee shop she frequented during her week in the Himalayas. A barista had come up to her, excited to tell her that her friend had paid for her food. Mel noticed he was full of joy, and asked if he believed in Jesus. The young barista said that he knew of Jesus, but that he didn’t follow a specific religion. Undeterred, Mel asked if he had heard the story of Jesus. When he responded, “no,” Mel asked if she could share it with him.
“He said, yes, you can share. So I started from the beginning, with creation. I shared with him who God is, and who Jesus is. He was fully engaged the entire time and was so interested in what I had to say. When I talked about Jesus dying on the cross, his face showed so much sadness, and when I talked about him rising again, you could see the joy,” said Mel. “ I shared the whole thing and I asked, ‘is this something that you would want to follow? Would you want to follow Jesus? Would you want to believe in him?’ He smiled and said, ‘why not?’ I made sure he knew what he was committing to, and he said, ‘yes.”” At that, Mel connected him with a long-term missionary who happened to be at the coffee shop at the same time. He led him through a salvation prayer in his own language, and the young barista became the third salvation that week.
Each of these testimonies were the fruit of believers saying “yes” to going to the 10-40 Window on a short-term trip with MAPS Global. As the nations hunger and thirst for the truth of the Gospel, more and more fruit will be seen in response to the “yes.” The harvest is ripe in the Himalaya!
